Vascular Laser Treatments for Blood Vessel Disorders

Medically-guided. Evidence-based. Tailored to your skin.

What Are Vascular Lesions?

Vascular lesions are abnormalities of the blood vessels in the skin. They may appear as red, purple, or blue marks and can be present from birth or develop over time. While generally harmless, many patients seek treatment for cosmetic, functional, or psychosocial reasons.

At Northern Sydney Dermatology & Laser, Dr Nina Wines offers safe and effective laser solutions for a wide range of vascular conditions using world-class technologies and a personalised, dermatologist-led approach.

Conditions Treated with Vascular Laser:

Cherry Angiomas

Small, red dome-shaped spots made up of clusters of blood vessels.

  • Treatment: Usually resolve with 1–2 treatments

  • Downtime: Minimal; often no bruising or crusting

  • Results: Immediate darkening followed by clearance within weeks

Essential Facial Telangiectasia

Dilated vessels on the cheeks, nose, and chin, often unrelated to rosacea.

  • Treatment: 2–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart

  • Expected Outcome: Progressive lightening of visible vessels

  • Common Devices: VBeam Perfecta (595nm), BBL 560nm

Port-Wine Stains (Capillary Malformations)

Flat red or purple birthmarks present at birth, often deepening over time.

  • Treatment Plan: Multiple treatments, typically spaced 6–8 weeks apart

  • Notes: Best started in infancy/early childhood but effective in adults

  • Safety: Eye protection and, in some cases, intraocular shields required

  • Technology: Pulsed dye laser (e.g. VBeam Perfecta) preferred

Leg / Spider Veins (Telangiectasia of the lower limbs)

Thin red, blue, or purple veins commonly found on thighs, calves, and ankles.

  • Treatment: Often requires 2–3 sessions, spaced 8–10 weeks apart

  • Considerations: Larger veins may need sclerotherapy

  • Technology: 755nm or long-pulsed Nd:YAG used based on depth and vessel size

Venous Lakes (on lips or ears)

Dark blue soft compressible lesions caused by dilated veins.

  • Treatment: 1–2 sessions with vascular laser

  • Outcome: Significant cosmetic improvement with minimal downtime
