Dr Wines has an interest in pregnancy and the skin and can advise on the management of stretch marks. Stretch marks are created by excess tension and on the skin. Tension literally stretches the collagen and elastic fibers of the skin. Rapid growth, excess weight gain or pregnancy are some examples of the causes of stretch marks.
Basically, when stretch marks are new, they tend to be red. When they are red, a type of laser called the pulse dye laser can be helpful. When scars age they become thin and silvery in colour. At this stage they may respond to fractionated laser or radiofrequency laser. There is little evidence in the literature that topical creams and oils really make a difference.
It’s important to receive trustworthy information about what can and can’t help your stretch marks.
